Affordable Care Act/Health Insurance Marketplace

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) established Health Insurance Marketplaces which allow individuals, families and small businesses shop for Health Insurance.  The Health Insurance Marketplace can also determine if a household will qualify for Subsidies that can help pay for a portion of the monthly premium for your insurance as well as Cost Sharing Reductions that can assist with the amount of out of pocket expenses a person may incur with their health insurance.

Part of the Affordable Care Act was an expansion of Medicaid to persons under 138% of the Federal Poverty level.  This part of the ACA was determined to be a State Option.  North Carolina chose to expand and the program started 12/01/2023.
