Medical Transportation

Medical Transportation is provided by McDowell County Dept. of Social Services as outlined in the transportation policy for McDowell County Dept. of Social Services which is provided to recipients at the initial assessment for transportation services. Transportation services are only available for Medicaid recipients for medical appointments. These appointments must be medical appointments paid by Medicaid. Please note that it may be required to have a referral from your primary care physician to attend another appointment if you have a PCP listed on your Medicaid card. The transportation coordinator will inform you if this is necessary.

You are not eligible for transportation assistance:

• if you are authorized for Medicare-Aid (M-QB);
• while your applications is pending (before a decision is made;  or
• while you are on a deductible for Medicaid.
• NC Health Choice recipients are not eligible for transportation.
